Founded in 2004 by Dan Loshbaugh, Dr. Melodee Loshbaugh, and their son, Gabe, Brock’s Academy is the brainchild of Dr. Mel, an esteemed educator with over 45 years of experience across elementary, secondary, and college levels and consulted/trained teachers nationally in innovative teaching techniques. Dr. Mel has a MAT in Special Education, an MAT in Teaching the Gifted and Talented, and an EdD in Literacy Development. Recognizing that traditional classroom settings don't suit every student, she envisioned Brock’s Academy as a creative alternative for families seeking personalized education. During her own professional development and teaching years, she found it disturbing that our special education programs couldn’t utilize the more creative, project-based fun strategies that are used in Gifted Programs across the country.  So, she created Designer Education™ as a way to bring the two together. Dr. Mel believes all kids, regardless of whatever designation or label they have been given, deserve to be seen as gifted!  It’s our job as educators to help them discover their unique gifts, talents, and abilities. We all deserve to have fun learning!

In 2011, the Loshbaughs decided to honor the memory of Brock Loshbaugh, who tragically passed away in 2002 at the age of 22, by renaming the institution. The choice of "Brock’s Academy" serves as a poignant tribute, reflecting his enduring passion for learning and the pursuit of knowledge. Brock’s is an OSPI Washington State Approved Private School and Non-Public Agency, accredited through Cognia. This distinction has allowed Brock’s the opportunity to partner with many School districts in Washington State, customizing individual programs for typical and neurodivergent learners from K-12. What sets us apart from other NPA’s, Private Schools, or Tutoring services is Designer Education™. We offer flexibility in scheduling times, location, and customized curriculum and pace in a 1-to-1 setting.  One teacher to one student.
