The New Year 2014 has kicked off and it’s time to get back into the swing of things. The kids bounded out the door today, after a two week hiatus and finally everyone is back on a set routine. You take a sip of your coffee and breathe a great sigh of relief. The routine, however, means getting back to the nightly chore of making sure homework is finished and study habits are set back in place.
To help your child adjust back to school, give them a healthy meal tonight and put them to bed early. Nightly reading will also help put them back into an academic mindset. Now is also a good time to evaluate how your child is doing with grades. If there are some subjects your child is struggling in, it would be a good idea to set up an appointment with their teacher to see if there are things you can work on at home to help them. Also, check to see if there are any extra credit opportunities.
This week will be an adjustment period for the whole family to get back into the academic routine. There may be some bumps along the way but hopefully everyone will be well rested after a fun holiday respite.
