The Benefits of One-on-One Tutoring

A great tutor can make a huge difference in a child’s educational success.  One-on-one in-home tutoring can help a child gain self-confidence and a thorough understanding of the subject matter. The student will learn good study habits to ensure success.  The one-on-one learning model allows the tutor to take the time to get to know the student’s needs and focus specifically on where they are struggling.  According to findings from the National Dissemination Center for Children with Learning Disabilities, well-designed and carefully administered one-to-one reading instruction contributed to improved performance for many students who were struggling to read.  They also found one-on-one tutoring could boost a student’s performance from the 50th to the 65th percentile on standardized testing.

Tutoring can be especially helpful for children that struggle in the regular classroom setting.  Children that have ADD/ADHD, or other learning disabilities, may have trouble focusing and need the extra support a tutor can offer.  High teacher-to-student ratio in the traditional classroom setting can impede students from getting individual attention that they need.  A great deal of research has shown that smaller class sizes result in significant gains in student achievement which endure to graduation and beyond, according to the Fair Schools Funding Coalition.  In 2012, Washington State ranked fourth for most crowded classrooms in the nation.  Which means children in this state might not be getting the education they deserve or need.

In an interview given to CNN in late 2011, Bill Gates stated that “one-on-one teaching is kind of that ideal that you would like to achieve where you see where they’re confused, you see where they’re bored and you’re tuning what they say according to that.”  Brock’s Academy offers one-on-one in-home tutoring support in all subject matters and can give your child the boost they need to be successful in school.  From general subject matter tutoring to intensive focus on math, reading or writing or test prep, Brock’s has you covered.  For more information about Brock’s Academy, please contact 425-483-1353 or go to www.brocksacademy.com.

  1. Hello,

I have a student who lives in your area. She is very bright and has strong math reasoning skills. She also has ADHD and tends to rush and make careless mistakes, which is causing her a lot of anxiety. Do you have tutoring the could help her structure her math problem solving and numerical operations so that she would be more successful?

Thank you very much. Sincerely, Kathie Ekemo, Ph.D.

    • Hi! Yes, we can totally help her with her math skills. We have a lot of experience working with children with ADHD. I will have our Administrative Director, Rachel Kier contact you for more information.
