This summer has flown by and it’s time to start thinking about the 2013-2014 school year. Parents have to start the back-to-school preparations such as shopping for school supplies, new clothes, shoes and backpacks. The more organized you are the better. Download the school supplies lists from your school website and take inventory of last year’s supplies and see if any of it can be used for this year. Start shopping early to catch the back-to-school promotions. Bring your child with you shopping so they can help you pick the supplies out. This will help them to get more in the mindset for school. Stock up on bulk supplies. Update your child’s back-to-school emergency contact and health information. Set doctor’s appointments now to get any needed immunizations for fall sports and school admissions. Try and help your child prepare for school by talking about all great things about school such as being with friends, after school sports, P.E., science and other fun school activities. If you haven’t already, start your child reading a fun book now so they can get back into the swing of things and brush up on their reading skills. Another tip is to start putting your child to bed earlier so their bodies can adjust more easily to the new routine of getting up early. The better prepared you are for back-to-school the less stressful it will be. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer!!
