7 Warning Signs Your Elementary Student Needs a Tutor

Kid doing homework with his dogLake Washington School District just finished elementary school parent-teacher conferences.  If you have an elementary student in Lake Washington School District we hope your conference went well.

Early in the year elementary goal setting conferences can be useful.  However, if you don’t get a follow up conference, you are left without formal communication of your child’s status the rest of the school year.

This can be especially difficult for the elementary school parent as the quarterly report cards that come home may or may not fully explain your child’s progress.

To help you evaluate your elementary school student’s progress, here are seven warning signs that your child may need a tutor.

  1. They Struggle to Complete Homework
  2. Staying on Task or Managing Time is Difficult
  3. A Disorganized Backpack or Homework Space
  4. You’ve Noticed a Change in Their Confidence or Motivation
  5. They are Reluctant or Unhappy About Going to School
  6. You Don’t Have Time to Help Due to Other Commitments
  7. You Can’t Help Due to Power Struggles with Your Child

Often we assume tutors are used by older students, but sometimes early intervention for your elementary age child makes the most sense.  Building proficiency in early math, reading and writing skills not only gives your child confidence, it sets the stage for higher learning.

An outside tutor may be just what your elementary school child needs to rekindle their interest in learning.  And a nice benefit for you may be re-found peace in your household.
